Home Inspector Salary Overview

The average starting salary for a home inspector is around thirty thousand dollars a year. The average overall home inspector salary hovers around fifty thousand dollars a year. However, some inspectors do earn around seventy thousand dollars or more a year but that that salary is on the high end. The amount an inspector will initially earn depends on a few factors such as experience and whether they work for the federal government or state governments. Home inspectors often work for themselves too, starting their own business. Business owners’ salaries will vary due to many different factors. Inspectors who work for the federal government tend to earn more than inspectors working for state governments. Home inspector salary varies on many factors but these are some realistic numbers.

There are some steps involved before a person can become a home inspector. The first step is to enroll in some sort of course that can help a person learn the ins and outs of the business and prepare for the home inspector’s license test, as there is a test one must take before they become license. Courses will teach people how to write up reports and be introduced to ethics. Basically a license is needed in order to start working as an inspector. Many schools offer certificate courses that people enroll in and these programs can help a person get a higher home inspector salary when they start working as one.
A home inspector’s job is to look over a home and make sure that the home is livable before somebody moves into it. Inspectors investigate many areas of the home such as the foundation for cracking and other damage. They also check pipes and fixtures relating to plumbing, as well as electrical stuff such as grounding, breakers and fuses. They also check interior stuff such as cabinets, doors, windows and fire places. Patios, decks walkways and driveways are also inspected and so are stuff relating to roofing. Items such as furnaces, stoves and air conditioners are also inspected by home inspectors. Inspectors inspect many more areas of the home but these are just some of the things inspectors check out. They also need to write out detailed reports to their clients and tell them what needs to be fixed and if anything is a hazard.
The job demands a person to constantly learn and stay on top of up to date information in order to provide accurate reports to their clients. An inspector does not work what are considered normal working hours, such as 8-5. Inspectors often work evening hours and most weekends. They often work long hours and most days. The amount of time it takes to inspect a home depends on how big the home is, therefore an inspector may only inspect one or two homes a day, sometimes three.
Home inspectors earn good money and they are not tied to a desk. Anybody who is thinking about becoming one should definitely take a course in home inspection and get their license.
