So you get your new iPad mini, you take it out of the box, and…it has the 5-watt power wall adapter instead of the 12-watt one that is supposed to be coming with the 4th generation iPad. It is true, the new iPad mini is shipping with the “slower charging” 5-watt adapter.
This was confirmed by someone able to get their hands on the iPad mini a little early.
This is a little surprising on Apple’s part, as the iPad mini has a much larger capacity battery than, say, the iPhone 5 (3x about as large). The same 5-watt adapter ships with the iPhone 5, so in theory it will take considerably longer to charge the iPad mini. Some users may choose to purchase the “faster” 12-watt charger from Apple. I wonder why it went this one.
What do you think? Disappointed Apple shipped it with this one? Are you going to purchase a faster charger? Let us know in the comments.
